Our History

In 1951, visionary members of the California Optometric Association recognized the need for a financial institution dedicated exclusively to the unique needs of independent optometrists. From that vision, the California Optometric Credit Union was established. As demand for our specialized expertise grew beyond California, our reach expanded nationwide and Vision One Credit Union was born.

Today, Vision One Credit Union proudly operates as a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution governed by an all-optometrist, volunteer Board of Directors. Our singular focus remains unchanged: supporting independent optometry. Every product, service, and financial solution we offer is designed to help private practitioners enter ownership, build long-term wealth, and execute thoughtful retirement and exit strategies.

Vision One is funded by deposits from independent optometrists, optometric associations and societies, optometric colleges, and organizations that support private practice optometry. These member deposits are reinvested directly back into independent optometry, not other medical professions or unrelated industries—strengthening the profession we collectively serve.

As a financial institution created by optometrists, for optometrists, we dedicate our resources to addressing industry-wide challenges. We work to reduce barriers to practice ownership for emerging doctors while helping established practitioners achieve timely, well-structured, and rewarding transitions. Through complimentary financial education programs, Vision One helps bridge the communication gap between practice buyers and sellers—clarifying the transition process, assembling the right advisory team, and structuring financing solutions that mitigate risk.

By delivering these services, Vision One Credit Union enhances the long-term economic viability of private practice optometry. We are more than a lender; we serve as a trusted community resource going beyond conventional financing to help you confidently achieve your financial and professional goals.

Our Mission

“To be the financial institution of choice for private optometric practices nationwide by providing trusted financing and depository solutions, advancing financial literacy, and delivering expert guidance that strengthens practice value and builds personal wealth.”

Our Board of Directors

Founded by optometrists for optometrists, Vision One Credit Union brings more than 75 years of experience serving the financial needs of private practice doctors nationwide. As a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution, we are guided by an all-volunteer Board of Directors composed primarily of practicing optometrists who understand the realities of private practice ownership at every stage of a professional career.

Our Board provides strategic oversight, fiduciary stewardship, and governance leadership to ensure the Credit Union remains financially strong, member-focused, and aligned with the long-term interests of independent optometry. By combining industry insight with disciplined governance, the Board helps advance our mission of delivering specialized financing and depository solutions that support practice growth, transition, and long-term wealth creation.
